Ramp Mishap

Cobb County accident report stated that on September 22, 2018 based on the physical evidence and the statements of the drivers, the following was determined: Vehicle 1 was traveling NB on the Windy Hill exit ramp of I-75N, in lane 1. Vehicle 2 was traveling in the same direction in lane 2 when Driver 1, driving too close to the median, lost control of his vehicle and spun around and struck the rear driver’s side of Vehicle 2, causing moderate damage to the vehicle. Driver 2 complained of left shoulder pain and was taken to Windy Hill Hospital. Driver 1 was cited for Failure to Maintain Lane. Note: When using exit ramps, proceed with caution. 

Look Before Leaping

Cobb County accident report stated that on September 19, 2018 Vehicle 1 was traveling in the center turn lane on NB Cobb Pkwy near Akers Mill.  Vehicle 2 was turning left onto NB Cobb Pkwy from a private driveway. Vehicle 1 used the center lane traveling SB for approximately one mile, causing Vehicle 2 to slam into Vehicle 1 and due extensive damage to the right front bumper. Both drivers felt they were in the right, but an eyewitness confirmed that Vehicle 2 had been in that lane long before Vehicle 1.  No injuries. Driver 1 was cited for use of the center turn lane.  Note:  Pay attention in the center turn lane. 

Must Yield

DeKalb County accident report stated that on September 17, 2018 based on the statements of the drivers and the physical evidence at the scene, the following was determined. Vehicle 1 struck the passenger side of Vehicle 2, while attempting to enter Rays Road, attempting to turn left (North). Driver 1 stated that she could not judge the speed of Vehicle 2 traveling South on Rays Road, and that she pulled into the road and hit Vehicle 2. No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Slight damage was done to both vehicles. Driver 1 was cited for Failure to Yield Entering Roadway. Note: Whenever you enter the major road, you must yield. 

Three Car Pile Up

Fulton County accident report stated that on September 16, 2018 an officer observed a 3 car accident. Driver 1 stated that she was traveling SB on Metropolitan in the left hand lane, noticed the traffic in front of her had stopped. She looked in her rear view mirror, made sure the right lane was clear, put on her blinker, proceeded into the right lane, when she felt Vehicle 2 ram her rear, driving her into a pole. Driver 2 stated that he saw Vehicle 1 stop then pull out, but could not stop and hit her rear end. Driver 3 stated that while traveling SB on Metro in the left hand lane a white truck stopped in front of him, and he saw the other 2 vehicles collide with each other, then strike the rear of his truck. The officer observed it was evident that Vehicle 1 had already taken the lane when Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 3 and then struck Vehicle 1 driving her into the pole. Driver 1 had injuries and was transported to Grady Hospital by the EMT. All other drivers refused medical attention. Vehicle 2 was cited. Note: When the traffic ahead slows down, follow suit & slow down! 

Keep Your Foot on the Brake

Dekalb accident report stated that on September 14, 2018 Driver 1 was traveling SB on  Street near l1th Street in the 2nd lane to the right. He had to stop in the heavy traffic and as it began to move he thought the vehicle in front of him began to move slowly, and as he let his foot off the brake, as he changed his radio station, he bumped vehicle 2. Driver 2 stated that qshe was stopped in traffic on Spring Street in the 2nd to right lane, also. She said that she was just sitting there when she felt a hard hit to her vehicle and her head bounced back hard on the head rest.  No injuries were reported. Driver 1 was cited for Following Too Closely.  Note: When you assume the traffic has moved, Make Sure! 

Pay Attention

DeKalb County accident report stated that on September 10, 2018 Vehicle 2 was traveling North on Northeast Expressway in the far right lane. Vehicle 1 was stopped on Woodcock Blvd at the stop sign attempting to make a left on NE Expressway. Vehicle 1struck Vehicle 2 on the passenger far rear side. Driver 1 stated that Driver 2 had improperly backed into his vehicle. Driver 2 had complaints of neck and back pain but refused EMS service. Driver 1 was cited for Failure to Yield, and Vehicle 1 had to be towed. Note: Paying attention when attempting to make left turns will save your vehicle and your driver’s record! 

One Car Length Behind

Cobb County accident report stated that on September 8, 2018 Vehicles 1 & 2 were traveling from the driveway of Cumberland Pkwy and Vehicle 2 entered following too closely and rammed Vehicle 1 while turning into the center lane. Vehicle 1 had damage to the rear driver’s side door and rear left panel. Driver 1 experienced pain in his arm but refused medical treatment. Driver 2 was cited for following too closely. Note: Keep your distance.

Hit and Run

Doraville  accident report stated that on September 7, 2018 an officer was called to the scene of an accident  on I-85 SB.   Driver 2 advised that he was traveling SB on I-85 in the second lane when observed another vehicle speeding up behind him, when the other vehicle struck the right side of his Vehicle, and continued driving. Driver 2 then stated that he then lost control of his vehicle and began to spin out of control. As he was spinning, he began to brake to keep from spinning into the center of the roadway, and then impacted the guard rail. After his vehicle came to a stop, he realized that the other car had sped away and he could not obtain any identifying information on Driver 1. Driver 2 stated that he was having severe left shoulder pain and believed that his shoulder was dislocated from the collision, and he was taken to  Medical Center for further medical treatment. The officer could not identify any evidence that concurred with the info given by Driver 2. No citations were given. Note:  In case of a rear ending, try to obtain vehicle description, if the license plate cannot be obtained. 

Never Pass More Than One Vehicle At a Time

 

Fulton County accident report stated that on  September 6, 2018  Driver 2 & 3 were at a standstill in the center lane when Vehicle 1 attempted to pass them in the lane to their left. Vehicle 1 came into their lane, hitting the driver’s side of Vehicle 2 and the driver’s front corner of Vehicle 2. Driver 1 advised that he did not crossover into the other lane and that Vehicle 2 and Vehicle 3 must have crossed over into his lane. It was determined that Driver 1 was at fault and was cited for failure to yield while passing.  

Note:  Passing laws require that a Vehicle must pass only one other vehicle at a time.

Drifting

Cobb County accident report stated that on August 26, 2018 Driver 1 advised that he was traveling SB on S. Cobb Drive near the E/W Connector in the number 2 straight lane.  He also stated that he saw Vehicle 2 approaching his vehicle in the number 1 straight lane.  Driver 1 said she and the other driver reached intersection together, both his vehicle and Vehicle 2.  But Driver 2 stated that she had pulled out of the Jr. Crickets parking lot and proceeded SB on S. Cobb Drive and that as she was passing Vehicle 1 she felt the bump and observed Vehicle 1 in her travel lane.  There was slight damage to Vehicle 1 and to Vehicle 2 as well.  This indicated that this vehicle could have been drifting to the left.  Driver 1 was cited for failure to maintain his lane.  Note:  Paying Attention Pays Off. 

Must Yield

Cobb County accident report stated that on August 26, 2018 Driver 2 says she was driving WB on the E/W Connector in the number two straight lane approaching Austell Road from the E/W Connector and that Vehicle 1 stopped in the intersection.  She said she tried to stop but was unable to and collided with Vehicle 1.   Driver 1 stated that he began to turn from the E/W Connector onto Austell after a truck had passed through the intersection.  Driver 1 proceeded through the intersection but realized he could not make it through without colliding with Vehicle 2.  Driver 2 thought Driver 1 would have to stop, but realized he was wrong.    The eyewitness, who was traveling WB on EW Connector directly behind Vehicle 2, stated that Driver 1 started to turn left in front of Vehicle 2, then suddenly stopped in the intersection and that Driver 2 tried to avoid colliding with Vehicle 1, but couldn’t stop in time.  No injuries were reported.  Driver 1 was cited for failure to yield turning left.  Note: The left turning vehicle always yields to the traffic with the right of way. 

Pile up

On August 24,, 2018 an officer observed a 3 car accident. Driver 1 stated that she was traveling SB on Metropolitan in the left hand lane, noticed the traffic in front of her had stopped. She looked in her rear view mirror, made sure the right lane was clear, put on her blinker, proceeded into the right lane, when she felt Vehicle 2 ram her rear, driving her into a pole. Driver 2 stated that he saw Vehicle 1 stop then pull out, but could not stop and hit her rear end. The officer observed it was evident that Vehicle 1 had already taken the lane when Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 3 and then struck Vehicle 1 driving her into the pole. Driver 1 had injuries and was transported to Grady Hospital by the EMT. All other drivers refused medical attention. Vehicle 2 was cited. Note: When the traffic ahead slows down, follow suit & slow down! 

Follow closely Is Not Wise

Clayton County accident report stated that on August 23, 2018 Driver1 advised that she was on I-75SB and had exited onto the Mt. Zion Blvd East ramp. She came to the top of the ramp at the intersection of Mt. Zion Blvd was behind Vehicle 2 and began to turn right, but Vehicle 2 stopped. Driver 1 advised that due to thinking Vehicle 2 had continued, she attempted to proceed forward and collided with the rear of Vehicle 2. Driver 2 advised that she was on I-75/SB and had exited onto Mt. Zion Blvd East ramp. She came to a stop at the top of the ramp, and rear-ended by Vehicle 1. Driver 1 had complaints of chest pain. Driver 2 complained of neck and shoulder pain. Both drivers declined transport to the hospital. Driver 1 was cited for following too closely. 

Note: Follow closely and pay the cost. 

Obscured vision

Fulton County accident report stated that on August 19, 2018 Driver 1 was traveling WB on Coronet Way and was stopped in traffic behind Vehicle 2. She stated that Vehicle 2 was stopped behind a bus and began to move forward when it suddenly stopped due to the red light, which the driver only saw once the bus had proceeded. She then was unable to avoid striking Vehicle 2 in the rear. Driver 2 confirmed that this was correct. Driver 1 was cited for Following Too Closely. Note: A bus always prevents seeing the light change!! 

Backing Up Can Be Dangerous

DeKalb County accident report stated that on August 19, 2018 Driver 1 was driving North on Boulevard NE and was about to make a right turn onto Ponce DeLeon Ave, when he pulled out too far and saw a car approaching from the East. He stated that he backed his vehicle up and struck the car behind him, which was vehicle 2. Driver 2 confirmed this statement saying that as he was driving North on Boulevard that Vehicle 1, which was in front of him, just backed up and struck his vehicle. No injuries were reported. Vehicle 1 had no damage, and Vehicle 2 had a slight crack in the front hood. Driver 1 was cited with Improper Backing. Note: Never back up with cars behind you.
