Stop, Look and Yield

Clayton County accident report stated that on April 17, 2018 Driver 2 was traveling EB on Garden Walk Blvd when Vehicle 1 pulled into her lane of travel. Driver 2 stated that the front end of her vehicle struck the left side center of Vehicle 1. Driver 1 stated that she was exiting the parking lot of 5900 Hwy 85 and attempted to cross over the EB lanes of Garden Walk Blvd when her vehicle was struck left center by Vehicle 2. Driver 1 stated that she didn’t see Vehicle 2. No injuries were reported but the EMT did respond. Driver 1 was cited for Failure to Yield While Entering Roadway. Note: Always Yield. 

Three (3) Car Mishap

Fulton County accident report stated that on April 16, 2018 an officer observed a 3 car accident. Driver 1 stated that she was traveling SB on Metropolitan in the left hand lane, noticed the traffic in front of her had stopped. She looked in her rear view mirror, made sure the right lane was clear, put on her blinker, proceeded into the right lane, when she felt Vehicle 2 ram her rear, driving her into a pole. Driver 2 stated that he saw Vehicle 1 stop then pull out, but could not stop and hit her rear end. Driver 3 stated that while traveling SB on Metro in the left hand lane a white truck stopped in front of him, and he saw the other 2 vehicles collide with each other, then strike the rear of his truck. The officer observed it was evident that Vehicle 1 had already taken the lane when Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 3 and then struck Vehicle 1 driving her into the pole. Driver 1 had injuries and was transported to Grady Hospital by the EMT. All other drivers refused medical attention. Vehicle 2 was cited. Note: When the traffic ahead slows down, follow suit & slow down! 

Improper Right Turn

Gwinnett County accident report stated that on April 16, 2018 Vehicle 1 was traveling EB on Clifton Springs Road approaching Pane Rd when Vehicle 2 made it’s left turn to travel SB on Pane Rd and was struck by Vehicle 1, making a right turn onto the same road. There were no injuries reported. After reviewing the angles of the cars in the incident Driver 1 was cited for Improper Right Turn. Note: A left turn in the roadway has right of way to a yielding right turn. 

Failure to Yield

DeKalb County accident report stated that April 15, 2018 an officer responded to an accident at the intersection of Candler Road and the I-20W entry ramp. Upon arrival the officer observed Vehicle 1, a large U-Haul truck with Vehicle 2’s front end slightly underneath it. Driver 2 stated that she was traveling South on Candler Road when Vehicle 1 entered the roadway from the parking lot of the Valero gas station, in an attempt to make a left turn to travel North on Candler Road. Driver 2 stated that Vehicle 1 did not have enough clearance and cut the turn too sharply, striking and partially dragging her Vehicle. Driver 1 stated that he initially had clearance but that Driver 2 drove underneath the box portion of Vehicle 1. No injuries were reported and Driver 1 was cited for Failure to Yield Entering Roadway. You must yield! 

The Vehicle Entering Must Yield

DeKalb County accident report stated that on April 15, 2018 based on the statements of the drivers and the physical evidence at the scene, the following was determined. Vehicle 1 struck the passenger side of Vehicle 2, while attempting to enter Rays Road, attempting to turn left (North). Driver 1 stated that she could not judge the speed of Vehicle 2 traveling South on Rays Road, and that she pulled into the road and hit Vehicle 2. No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Slight damage was done to both vehicles. Driver 1 was cited for Failure to Yield Entering Roadway. Note: Whenever you enter the major road, you must yield. 

Yielding is a Must

Cobb County accident report stated that on February 26, 2018 Driver 2 says she was driving WB on the E/W Connector in the number two straight lane approaching Austell Road from the E/W Connector and that Vehicle 1 stopped in the intersection.  She said she tried to stop but was unable to and collided with Vehicle 1.   Driver 1 stated that he began to turn from the E/W Connector onto Austell after a truck had passed through the intersection.  Driver 1 proceeded through the intersection but realized he could not make it through without colliding with Vehicle 2.  Driver 2 thought Driver 1 would have to stop, but realized he was wrong.    The eyewitness, who was traveling WB on EW Connector directly behind Vehicle 2, stated that Driver 1 started to turn left in front of Vehicle 2, then suddenly stopped in the intersection and that Driver 2 tried to avoid colliding with Vehicle 1, but couldn’t stop in time.  No injuries were reported.  Driver 1 was cited for failure to yield turning left.  Note: The left turning vehicle always yields to the traffic with the right of way. 

Just Drifting

Cobb County accident report stated that on February 26, 2018 Driver 1 advised that he was traveling SB on S. Cobb Drive near the E/W Connector in the number 2 straight lane.  He also stated that he saw Vehicle 2 approaching his vehicle in the number 1 straight lane.  Driver 1 said she and the other driver reached intersection together, both his vehicle and Vehicle 2.  But Driver 2 stated that she had pulled out of the Jr. Crickets parking lot and proceeded SB on S. Cobb Drive and that as she was passing Vehicle 1 she felt the bump and observed Vehicle 1 in her travel lane.  There was slight damage to Vehicle 1 and to Vehicle 2 as well.  This indicated that this vehicle could have been drifting to the left.  Driver 1 was cited for failure to maintain his lane.  Note:  Paying Attention Pays Off. 

Look Both Ways Before Leaping Into the Center Lane

Cobb County accident report stated that on February 25, 2018 Vehicle 1 was traveling in the center turn lane on NB Cobb Pkwy near Akers Mill.  Vehicle 2 was turning left onto NB Cobb Pkwy from a private driveway. Vehicle 1 used the center lane traveling SB for approximately one mile, causing Vehicle 2 to slam into Vehicle 1 and due extensive damage to the right front bumper. Both drivers felt they were in the right, but an eyewitness confirmed that Vehicle 2 had been in that lane long before Vehicle 1.  No injuries. Driver 1 was cited for use of the center turn lane.  Note:  Pay attention in the center turn lane. 

You Are Responsible for Your Own Brakes

Cobb County accident report stated that on February 25, 2018 both vehicles were pulled over into the Wendy’s on S. Cobb Drive, SE.  Driver 1 stated that he was in the right turn lane, about to make the right turn onto SB S. Cobb Drive from Windy Hill.  He stated that he hit the brake to stop behind Vehicle 2, but his vehicle did not stop, the brakes failed.  Driver 2 advised that she was sitting at the red light in the turn lane, waiting to turn SB onto S. Cobb Drive.  The light was green to turn, and as she lifted her foot from the brake and that is when Vehicle 1 struck her vehicle.  Neither party was injured and Driver 1 was cited for following too closely.  Note:  When one’s brakes fail to work properly, that driver is responsible for his vehicle’s maintenance. 

Distracted

Cobb County accident report stated that on February 24, 2018 Vehicle 1 & Vehicle 2 were both traveling along the long stretch of a curved lane from EB on Cooper Lake Road to turn NB onto S Cobb Drive when Vehicle 1 collided into the rear bumper of Vehicle 2.  Driver 1 reported that Vehicle 2 was Not going to turn originally and chose to swerve into the Left turning lane, too close to his car, but did admit that he was talking on his cell phone just before the collision, which confirms what Driver 2 stated, that Driver 1 was distracted and eased into his car. No injuries were reported and Driver 1 was cited for failure to maintain lane, driving too closely and no proof of insurance.  Note:  Wrong is wrong. Talking on the phone while driving distracts people. 

Always Yield

Gwinnett County accident report stated that on February 24, 2018 Driver 2 said she was getting into the turning lane of hwy 85 , when Vehicle 1 struck her vehicle.  Driver 1 stated that she was coming out of the Grocery Store, and the cars in the traffic let her know that she could cut through.  She said that she did cut through, but in the process struck Vehicle 2.  Damage to both vehicles with dents, scratches & broken lights on the front driver’s side. No injuries were reported and Driver 1 was cited for failure to yield when entering/crossing the roadway. Note: Use caution entering roadway. 

Animals Demand the Right of Way

Clayton County accident report stated that on February 23, 2018 Vehicle 2 came to a stop in the middle of the roadway on Mt Zion Road but was unable to stop in time, and her vehicle struck Vehicle 2 in the rear.  Driver 1 said that Driver 2 just abruptly stopped without warning.  Driver 2 advised that she merged into the Mt Zion traffic but had to immediately apply the brakes due to several dogs running across the roadway, at which point her vehicle was rear-ended.  She stated that she had no choice but to stop or she would have struck one of the dogs.  Driver 1 confirmed that dogs were in the roadway, but claimed that they were way off on the side of the roadway when Driver 2 decided to stop Vehicle 2.  Driver 1 was cited for following too closely.  Note:  Pay attention to people and animals 

Lane Changes

Gwinnett County accident report stated that on February 232018 Vehicle 1 merged into the left hand lane while traveling on 120 at the intersection of Zion Road.  Driver 1 stated that while traveling on 120, he observed construction cones sectioning off his lane.  He said he attempted to merge into the other lane, and Vehicle 2 passed him too quickly, and the two vehicles collided.  Vehicle 1 sustained several scratches on the left rear and corner side of the vehicle.  Vehicle 2 also sustained scrapes on the right side of the vehicle.  Neither driver reported any injury.  Driver 1 was cited for improper lane change.  Watch out for vehicles in that other lane! 

Yield Before Turning

Clayton County accident report stated that on February 22, 2018 Vehicle 2 was traveling WB on Mt. Zion Blvd near the intersection of Rex Rd.  Vehicle 1 came out of the BP Gas Station on Rex Rd exiting onto Rex Road.  Driver 2 stated that she was on Rex Road traveling WB and advised that Vehicle 1 suddenly began to pull out of the station.  She stated she blew her horn, but continued to pull into the roadway.  She advised that Vehicle 1 hit the right side of Vehicle 2 as it was pulling out onto the roadway.  Driver 1 stated that he was in the parking lot of the BP Station and was making a left onto Rex Road and did not see Vehicle 2 approaching.  He stated that as he was pulling onto the roadway when Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 2.  Passenger 2 complained of pain but refused EMS treatment, while Passenger 1 was transported by EMS with complaints of pain.  There was slight damage to both vehicles.  Driver 1 was cited for failure to yield entering the roadway.  Note: You must yield to traffic already in the roadway. 

Ran the Light

Cobb County accident report stated that on February 22, 2018 Vehicle 1 was traveling WB on Concord Road at the intersection of Atlanta Road. Vehicle 2 was traveling on Atlanta Road turning left onto EB Atlanta Road.  Vehicle 1 ran the red light and struck Vehicle 2 on the front left bumper.  Driver 1 complained of head, neck and shoulder pain, and had a nose bleed and was transported to Wellstar for further treatment.  Driver 2 complained of head and neck pain also, but refused to be transported to the hospital.  Eyewitness 1, confirmed this.  Driver 1 was cited for failure to obey the authorized traffic control device.  Note:  Run a Light, Run risk of a ticket.
