Stay Alert While Driving
Fulton County accident report states that on July 29, 2015 Driver 1 advised that she was driving south on Roswell Road toward I-285 and blacked out. She further explained that she could not remember anything beyond waking up on the side of the road. The car had struck a tree. Both driver and passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle by the Fulton County Fire Dept. Driver 1 advised police officers that she suffers from low blood pressure and thinks that’s what caused the blackout and loss of control of her car. The passenger confirmed this saying that she looked over at the driver before they crashed and explained that she looked very groggy and she suggested that she pull over, but it was too late. The driver, who suffered extensive head injuries was transported to Northside Hospital. The passenger suffered a broken right shoulder, elbow and arm. She also was transported to Northside Hospital. The driver was not cited. Note: If you have a condition, keep it in check!
Yield for Left Hand Turns
Fulton County/Sandy Springs accident report states that on July 19, 2015 Driver 1 stated that she was attempting to exit the Plaza at Roswell & Hammond Dr. She said that she was about to make a left turn to go north, when she saw another vehicle pulling into the plaza. She stated that she thought she had enough time to clear both the lanes and enter safely. She stated that when she entered the road she did not see Vehicle 2. Both drivers complained of injuries and required medical attention. Driver 1 was cited for failure to yield when entering the roadway. Note: Left turns require much more attention.
Backing Up Is Trickier Than Driving Forward
Fulton County/Sandy Springs accident report stated that on July 19, 2015 an officer was dispatched to Mount Vernon Hwy & Abernathy Rd to investigate a traffic accident when Driver 1 advised that he had stopped his car for the traffic light. He then backed his car to move over into the next lane. In the process of backing up, he backed into the front end of Vehicle 2 with the rear end of his car. Vehicle 1 sustained slight damage to the rear bumper of his vehicle and Vehicle 2 had moderate damage to the front end of his car. No injuries were reported. Driver 1 was cited for improper backing. Note: There should be more regard shown when backing up, so use more caution.
DON’T CRUISE TOO CLOSE
Clayton County accident report stated that on July 2, 2015 Driver 1 was driving Vehicle 1, S on Tara Blvd. He stated to the Officer that had been driving a ‘little too close’ to Vehicle 2, a Honda Accord, which was driven by Driver 2. Driver 2 began to turn into a driveway, when Driver 1 rear-ended Vehicle 2. This accident happened in daylight, but the ground was still wet from a recent shower, so the road was slippery from the oil on the ground mixed with the rain. There was very little damage done to Vehicle 1 on the right side, but extensive damage done rear end of vehicle 2.
Note: When driving on wet streets remember that recent moisture on roads is very slippery so don’t drive too closely to other cars! Remember that a safe distance is 1 1/2 to 2 car lengths at 25-30 mph So don’t cruise into other cars!
The Proper Way to Merge
Fulton County accident report stated that on July 2, 2015 an accident took place at the merge lane of Cleveland Avenue and I-75. Both drivers were traveling North on 75 in lane #2. Both were attempting to merge into lane #1, so as to merge off onto Cleveland Avenue. All parties concerned agreed that Driver 1 was already in the merge lane to I-75 when Driver 2, who was obviously going too fast to slowly merge into Lane 1. Upon swerving to make the exit, Driver 2 struck Vehicle 1 on the driver’s side. Neither driver, nor the passengers were injured and both were able to move their cars without incident. Driver 2 was charged with improper lane change. Note: Merge safely.
Yield Signs Mean To Yield!
Clayton County accident report stated that on July 1, 2015, an officer reported that he made contact with Driver 2 who had been driving North on Mt Zion Blvd. He told the officer he was stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Mt Zion Blvd & Mt Zion Pkwy, and that the light turned green. Driver 2 told the officer that he proceeded forward and observed that Driver 1 was attempting to make a left turn in front of him, but was unable to stop. That caused Driver 2 to strike Driver 1’s vehicle. The officer learned that Driver 1 attempted to make left turn onto Mt Zion Pkwy when her turn2. There were moderated damages to both vehicles, and Driver 1 was
cited for failure to yield while turning left, and also for seat-belt violation. Note: In observing the rules of the road, remember that the vehicle in the roadway always has the right of way, and that oncoming vehicles must yield the right of way. So do it to avoid accidents.
Forgot to Check the Gas Gauge
Cobb County accident report stated that an officer arrived on the scene of an accident, which took place on July 1, 2015 spoke to Driver 1, who was driving on I-75N. Driver 1 recalled that he observed Driver 2 in a stalled car in the middle of his lane on the expressway. Although he tried to avoid hitting the stalled car, he could not, and struck Vehicle 2 on the left rear bumper and rear side panel. After speaking with Driver 2, the officer discovered that Driver 2 had allowed his vehicle to run out of gas and therefore stalled in the middle of I-285. Neither driver received any serious injuries, and the fault of the accident, was given to Driver 2 for stalling in the expressway and causing the accident. Note: Don’t ever get on the expressway with the gas gauge close to E! You may not get to your destination or to a gas station in time, and a stalled car can cause accidents. Always check gauges before driving!
Don’t Attempt to Drive When Exhausted
Cobb County accident report stated that on July 1, 2015 Driver 1 said she fell asleep while driving on SR 280 S, loss control and rolled her vehicle over twice, landing upside down in a ditch along the side of the road. Driver 1 stated that she had worked a double shift and simply drifted off. She sustained minor injuries, but her car was totaled. No citation was given. Note: When sleepy, pull over & rest!
Excellence in Driving Requires Patience
Cobb County accident report states that on June 30, 2015 the driver of Vehicle 2 stated that she was exiting I-285W and stopped at the red light at South Cobb Drive. Driver 2 said that she had stopped behind several cars and that approx 2 seconds after coming to the stop, the car behind her, Driver1 sped by her and around other cars, having become too impatient and trying to leave the far right lane to come around the stopped cars, ran into the rear of Vehicle 2. The damage to Vehicle 1 was moderate. The damage to Vehicle 2 was extensive, impacting the rear of the vehicle. Driver 1 was not injured, nor the passenger in Vehicle 1, but both driver and passenger in Vehicle 2 complained of pain in the neck. They both refused treatment. Driver 1 was cited for following too closely. Note: Observing rules of the road means being patient in traffic and waiting your turn!
Yield means slow before turning, and stop if you must!
Cobb County accident report stated that on June 29, 2015 Driver 1 was traveling EB on Cooper Lake Drive and slowed down at the yield sign and to turn right onto S. Cobb Drive, but was unable to slow down in time due to faulty brakes. Driver 2 was traveling SB on S. Cobb Driver, and when Vehicle 1 failed to yield at the sign at Cooper Lake and S. Cobb, Vehicle 1 slammed into Vehicle 2. Driver 1 and passenger were both taken to WellStar Hospital and treated for injuries. Driver 1 was cited for failure to yield. Note: Keeping your car in good operating order, is your responsibility.
Eyes Straight Ahead
Cobb County accident report stated that on June 28, 2015, Driver 1 was traveling N on Atlanta Rd, and attempted to brake, but could not stop and jumped the turning curb near the E/W Connector and ran into the driver’s door of Vehicle 2, leaving Driver 2 pinned inside her vehicle. Driver 1 stated that while attempting to negotiating the turn, she applied the brakes but found the vehicle unable to stop, and jumped the curb and struck Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 suffered major damage and Driver 1 was transported to Smyrna WellStar for complaints. Driver 2 stated that while traveling SE on Atlanta Rd she heard a scream and immediately felt the impact on her (driver’s) side. Driver 1 had to be cut out of her vehicle and was transported to Cobb General for evaluation. Vehicle 2 was totaled. Driver 2 was cited for failure to maintain lane. Note: Keep your eyes on the road – steering follows focus!
Don’t Drink and Drive
Clayton County accident report states that on June 28, 2015, while traveling S on Mt Zion Blvd, Vehicle 1 lost control of her vehicle and swerved off the road, then back onto the road and into another lane, hitting a tree. Vehicle 2 was forced to leave the road to avoid a head on collision, but did receive damage to her front bumper. Driver 1 stated that he didn’t know how or why he lost control. The officer smelled alcohol on Driver 1 and saw a half full liquor bottle was found on the driver’s passenger’s floor who was transported to Atlanta Medical for treatment of severe injuries. He received multiple citations including DUI, possession of alcohol, failure to maintain her lane.

It’s 2015 So Take Pictures If Possible, When an Accident Occurs
Cobb County accident report stated that on June 26, 2015 an officer responded to an incident report at the parking lot at Johnson Ferry Rd. According to the witnesses statements Vehicle 1 entered on the property and proceeded to enter a marked parking space and struck Vehicle 2 which was parked, but not occupied. Vehicle 1 continued forward, backed up, and parked in another parking space and then left the area. The witnesses took cell phone photos of Vehicle 1, which assisted in locating and citing Driver 1 for leaving the scene of an incident. Note: Quick Thinking and pictures got him caught.
Never Pass More Than One Vehicle At a Time
Fulton County accident report stated that on June 25, 2015 Driver 2 & 3 were at a standstill in the center lane when Vehicle 1 attempted to pass them in the lane to their left and Vehicle 1 came into their lane, hitting the driver’s side of Vehicle 2 and the driver’s front corner of Vehicle 2. Driver 1 advised that he did not crossover into the other lane and that Vehicle 2 and Vehicle 3 must have crossed over into his lane. It was determined that Driver 1 was at fault and was cited on failure to yield while passing.
Note: Passing laws require that a Vehicle must pass only one other vehicle at a time.
Three Lanes to Cross is Often Dangerous
Clayton County accident report stated that on June 24, 2015 Driver 1 advised that he was on Upper Riverdale Road at the intersection of SR3 traveling SW in the right turning lane and struck the left rear side of Vehicle 2 with his front bumper. Driver 2 advised that he was in the right turning lane on Upper Riverdale Rd facing SW when, as he changed lanes from the left to right turning land, he struck Vehicle 1. Both vehicles received slight bumper damage and no injuries were reported. Driver 1 was cited for Improper Lane Change. Note: Changing lanes across 3 lanes requires absolute attention.
